Making a Layout work for you

I have stacks of unopened Craft with Heart Layout kits and boxes of photos. I also have bins of 100’s of layouts created from workshops with no kits. I am starting a series of showing how to use my photos and let the pre-done layouts work for me.

These are the finished layouts, the video got cut short. oops!

Got Candy meets 2020

We will not have trick-or-treating or any of our traditional Halloween evening activities. Instead, I will plan a fun ghoulish supper followed by an evening of board games.

Leading up to the 31st, we should be able to partake of some of the normal fall activities. Pumpkin carving, picking out candy for the candy bowl and, if we are lucky and the home improvement projects are finished, putting up a few decorations around the house.

I used the Cricut to fussy cut the images from the Got Candy (CC8204) stamp set, the title and created the pumpkin for some shaped journaling strips. The background in the green and white is also from the Cricut image set Artbooking along with the photo mats.

In anticipation of our Halloween celebration in 2020, I created this “A COVID Halloween” layout using some of the Got Candy collection. I took my inspiration from this sketch.

I’m looking forward to starting another layout and I only wish I had my photos, but soon enough I will be dreaming of more time at my craft table and less time unpacking boxing and trying to find homes for all of our things.

Got Candy Promotion

Through the end of October, or while supplies last, CTMH is offering a collection of Halloween papers & embellishments called Got Candy.

It’s easy to see this paper for some Halloween cards or layouts, but it easily lends itself to other jolly occasions. I have some photos when friends visited and we went to California Adventure that I think will look great on this paper!

I love the stamp set that goes with this kit. It makes me happy and reminds me of happy days.

2 layouts, 1 month LOL!

I would not win any awards with the layouts that I managed to do this month, but they definitely accomplished my goal. I had not done any scrapbooking with photos for our family albums in close to 2 years. It is my goal, as we are able to unpack our stuff out of storage, to make photo organizing and scrapbooking a priority.

I came across one small packet of photos that I could scrapbook. After looking up the dates the photos were taken, I looked through the small portion of the papers I had access to, and found some that worked great!

Normally I pick my photos, chose my papers, find a layout or inspiration item to use to create the double layout, and go from there. This time it all started well, but then I went backwards. . . .

So, where may you ask did I go backward? This is a pretty straight forward, average layout in my book. Well, if you watch the Youtube video of my process of creating this, I picked my photos, chose my papers, then started to create embellishments, normally the last step. I wonder if I had done the paper cutting and put the layout together first, if I would have added more embellishments at the end. As I remember doing it, I think I was out of the embellishments I had created and was just happy to have completed some scrapbooking.

The layout is “shinier” in person as if you look closely you can see a trail of tiny stars from the upper left trailing through both pages to the lower right, and I used glitter paper as matting behind two of the photos.

Also, again, it’s hard to see in the above photos, but I did create photo hinges and anytime a page is interactive I think that’s a great thing!

If you want to learn more about creating photo hinges, check out the youtube video. The first hinge explanation happens around the 9-minute mark on the video.
